Public Accuracy Test of Voting Equipment - May 7, 2024, Special School Election

2024 Seasonal Weight Restrictions - Effective Feb. 21, 2024

In conjunction with the Gogebic County Road Commission, the City of Ironwood will be re-implementing the 2024 springtime weight restrictions at 10:00 a.m. (cst.) on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships and Villages as adopted by the CITY OF IRONWOOD, Chapter 30 of the Ironwood City Code, in particular Sections 30-170, 30-172, 30-191, 30-199, 30-201 and 30-370 of the said code, and the Michigan Vehicle Law Section MCL 257.722, the following is hereby issued:

During the period of load limits, the allowable maximum axle loads are reduced for concrete base roads by 25% and all other roads shall be reduced by 35%. This reduction shall be known as the Springtime Wheel and Axle Load Restrictions. The restrictions are listed in Section MCL 257.722 of the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code.

The City of Ironwood wishes to receive applications from Citizens who would be interested in serving their community as a member of the following Boards:

1 – Board of Review to fill vacant term (Term ending December 31, 2023. 3-year term).

1 - Ironwood Housing Commission to fill vacant term (Term ending June 30, 2027. 5-year term).

2 – Downtown Development Authority (DIDA) to fill one vacant term and one expired term (Term ending June 30, 2025 and June 30, 2027. 4-year term).

1 – Pat O’Donnell Civic Center Board of Directors to fill vacant term (Term ending October 31, 2025. 3-year term).

1 – Ironwood Planning Commission to fill vacant term (Term ending December 31, 2025. 3-year Term).

1 – Human Relations & Equity Committee (HREC) to fill vacant term (Term ending July 31, 3-Year Term).

Interested persons should pick up an application from City Clerk’s Office, 213 S. Marquette Street, Ironwood, MI 49938, or on City website at www.ironwoodmi.gov/government/documents. Please return completed applications by August 31, 2023.

Next Meeting

A Special meeting of the Ironwood City Commission will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in the Ironwood Memorial Building Commission Chambers, 213 S. Marquette Street, Ironwood, MI 49938. The purpose of the Special Meeting is to Consider Closed Session to discuss AFSCME Local 1538, Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations.

The Next Regular City Commission Meeting will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.

Meetings: 2nd and 4th Monday of each month starting at 5:30 p.m.

Ironwood Memorial Building History

History Displays

More than just home to the City of Ironwood offices, the Ironwood Memorial Building is both a living memorial to local war veterans and a tribute to the community spirit that built it. American Legion Post No. 5, Ironwood Women's Club, and Mayor James A O'Neil led the effort to raise more than $750,000 including interior furnishings in bonds issued for the building, a feat receiving national attention because Ironwood's population was only 17,000 in 1922. Remodeling in 1996 cost more than $1.6 million; evidence of continuing community support for this multi-purpose building.

The Memorial Building regular hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Utility Payment Window

The City of Ironwood utility and tax payments window accepts cash, check, or credit card for payment. The window is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Social Security Administration Office

The City of Ironwood leases space to the Social Security Administration which houses a local office on the 2nd floor of the building.

This office is NOT a part of the City Government.
